International Regeneration is an independent membership organisation looking at the global challenges of regeneration and solutions, analysing project initiatives, policies and success, and making these known to a worldwide audience.
International Regeneration is the 'global learning culture' organisation headed by Gerald Cary-Elwes, an Associate of European Renaissance. International Regeneration supports European Renaissance in the provision of facilities such as conferencing and client / partner liaison.
International Regeneration Mission Statement
International Regeneration is an independent entity that looks at the challenges of regeneration and solutions across the world, analysing the success of projects, initiatives and policies, and making these known to a worldwide audience.
International Regeneration is a membership organisation that promotes a greater sharing of experience and expertise in regeneration by providing an effective worldwide network of contacts in the public, private, academic and voluntary sectors, thereby creating a genuinely global learning culture on the regeneration of cities, regions, towns, rural areas and local communities.
Principal Aims and Objectives of International Regeneration
· To raise the profile of regeneration on national agendas and to ensure that it remains a top priority
· To highlight issues and topics of concern and relevance to all who are involved in the regeneration of cities, regions, towns, rural areas and local communities
· To reinforce the importance of environmental, social and sustainability issues
· To facilitate individual international contacts at national, regional and local level so that information can be readily obtained and shared and introductions effected
· To formulate and deliver viable and effective communication with others involved in regeneration in order to promote economic, commercial, physical, social, environmental and cultural exchanges
· To promote the need for education and training in regeneration in order to address skill shortages and to create academic linkages between countries for institutions and individual academics
· To facilitate exchange visits between countries so that information and knowledge on regeneration can be more easily transferred
· To identify what is successful and works best in regeneration and to see what new mechanisms and processes can be adopted for change
· To help people to play a vibrant and effective part in the life of their communities and to encourage them to adopt leadership and entrepreneurial skills
· To encourage the development of the arts, culture and the creative industries as instruments of regeneration
· To identify commercial and business opportunities in regeneration in different countries and to facilitate joint working partnerships
How the Objectives are achieved
The objectives of International Regeneration through its main activities:
· To undertake and commission research on regeneration matters and to make it available and accessible
· To arrange study visits and exchanges between countries so that the global learning culture on regeneration can be created
· To engage with academic and educational institutions in order to share academic learning and experience
· To compare policies and strategies on regeneration in various countries and to see how they can be models for others to follow
· To encourage young people to become involved with the regeneration of their communities
· To organise conferences, seminars, workshops on a wide range of regeneration issues, in the United Kingdom and overseas
· To publish the findings of conferences and to make the presentations available, where possible
· To create a website that is easily accessible, informative and interactive to which individuals can contribute
Governance and Administration
International Regeneration is governed by a Board of Directors, elected by the members. The Board and the Chair have ultimate authority over the management and activities of International Regeneration.
In addition, an Advisory Council is being established in order to widen the range of contacts and to give advice on the activities and topics that are undertaken by International Regeneration.
The office of International Regeneration is located in Central London, and the administrative functions are undertaken by Professional Solutions.
Chief Executive
The Chief Executive of International Regeneration is Gerald Cary-Elwes, formerly of the British Urban Regeneration Association. He was instrumental in the formation of BURA from 1990 until 2005 and has a wide knowledge of regeneration issues and a very broad network of organisations, companies and individuals involved in regeneration, both nationally and internationally
